american sniper
TLDR: A quick read, but good.
Chris M-FING Kyle.
This book is an interesting one. I expected it to be much like Lone Survivor, but it wasn’t. It truly read almost like a diary of this guy’s experience.
Wartime is nuts, man. I just don’t even know what I would be like. I’d like to think I had the massive balls to do it all like this guy, and the 4 from LS, and Jocko, and etc., but yikes.
I didn’t love this book like LS, but I did get a lot from it as an appreciation for what SEALs do.
Knowing how his life ended as well just increases his impact.
This story has some snippets of his wife which I found very cool. Her perspective on what Chris had to deal with, how that impacted their family, and what it meant to the kids and being a father. Those things probably hit home more than him sniping all those fools.
If you have a job where you’re away from the kids, if you have trauma, if you’re just in a place where you need to understand how to deal with being a dad AND being something else, this is a good book to read.
