Stephen King’s “IT”

TLDR: ABSOLUTELY get this book.

Hands down, this is the best fiction book I have ever read.

It’s long. It took me a few months to get through, but that entire summer was 100% worth it. I haven’t read any Stephen King books prior to this, however I’ve seen the movies. My buddy Joel is a book-head, and has harped this one forever… my urge to experience it finally got me.

King’s ability to thrust you into believable worlds is second to no one. Both the TV show AND the movies that came out a few years back don’t hold half a candle to this. Is it scary? Not really for me to be honest, I read it before bed every night and managed zero night sweats. However, the writing is thrilling and I had a very hard time putting this down - so I owe a few sleepless nights just to the fact that I was so excited.

I’m not exaggerating when I say the last few pages left me sobbing because they were so beautiful, and for them to pay off as powerfully as they do you HAVE to read the entire book, and that’s what I find so fascinating about King and his writing here. He demands your attention throughout the book, but it pays off ten fold at every corner. His descriptions are enthralling, and the way he sets scenes up is the written version of a Spielberg film.

I’d recommend this to literally anyone and everyone - however with the caveat that I grew up on horror so I might have a leg up in that department. This book will dig into your mind and not let go, but it’s THE BEST.

I pity the fool who hasn’t read this, but I also envy the one who reads it for their first time. This is such a great book, holy balls.

***The TV show, for anyone who hasn’t seen it, is a masterpiece in character exploration. It’s old and corny. The new movies that came out - the first one is dang good, and kind of meanders a bit around what happened in the book, but it really captures the essence. The second one is kind of a “swing and a miss” as Joel would say - and I have to agree. Both have incredible character design and ways of creating worlds, so if you’re into those sorts of things by all means don’t sleep on the film adaptations.
